The Board of Directors for the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce unanimously passed a resolution in support of Issue 1 at its February 19th board meeting. Issue 1 will appear on the November 3, 2020 general election ballot.
In 2012, Arkansans voted in favor of establishing a one-half cent percent (.5%) Sales and Use tax dedicated to fund our state highways, county roads, city streets, and bridges. This critical funding is set to expire in 2023. The intent of Issue 1 is to continue this needed revenue stream which provides dedicated funding to our state's roads and bridges.
At risk is the loss of existing funding for our state highways and local roads. For Crawford County, the funds at risk total $744,774. A "Yes" vote for Issue 1 supports the continuation of this dedicated funding source for Arkansas roads.
