    The Van Buren Chamber of Commerce’s February Business After Hours came with an exciting announcement – The Western Arkansas Planning and Development District (WAPDD) shared that Crawford will be the first county in the western half of Arkansas to participate in the valuable workforce assessment program, Act Work Ready. The initiative’s purpose is to promote the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) Program as a county-wide effort to prepare the workforce for current and future needs. Read more

    Home ownership is the dream of many families, and these days that dream is more attainable than ever in Western Arkansas. Identical twin brothers Ronald and Ragon Clements have been real estate brokers and homebuilders since 1990, and in 2010 Ronald Regan Realty, Inc. started doing business in Van Buren and bringing its residents options for reasonably priced luxury homes.     Having strong community support is crucial to the success of any school district. For VBSD students and staff, one key partner is the Van Buren Education Foundation. Established in 2001, the organization was created to provide funding for programs that fall outside the budgetary means of the district. Twice annually, educators submit grant proposals for special projects, field trips, and extraordinary programs that break the mold of traditional classroom experiences. Applications are reviewed, and grants are awarded based on originality, need, number of kids impacted, and other factors. Read more

    Small businesses are a driving force in our state’s economy. As of 2016, the Small Business Association (SBA) reported that Arkansas had 481,170 business employees and 244,977 small businesses. This represents 48.5% of total employees and 99.3% of total businesses in the state. While many Fortune 500 companies also call the region home, it is clear that small businesses remain a critical part of industries throughout the state. Read more
