The Chamber has awarded scholarships to two Van Buren High School students.Cesar Vladimir Brivela Zelaya Cesar plans to attend the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith to pursue a degree in math, English as a second language, and Spanish. From there, Cesar plans to obtain a job working for Van Buren High School in order to help students who have English as a second language to understand their school work. A Ribbon Cutting was held on Friday, May 6th for Abilities Unlimited located at 3305 Kibler Road, Van Buren. Abilities Unlimited unveiled their newly remodeled facility and celebrated 60 years of service! A great crowd came to help celebrate and tour the facility. The Van Buren Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee hosted two candidate forums in April. The County candidate forum was held on April 21st at the Van Buren Library and featured the candidates for County Judge, Chris Keith, Raymond Harvey and Scott Overby; County Sheriff, Daniel Perry, Shannon Gregory, Wayne Sandusky, and James Mirus; County Clerk, Time Walker, Anthony Whitman and Stacey Shelly. For the past 21 years, Leadership Crawford County (LCC) has been dedicated to developing new leaders in our community. The goal of Leadership Crawford County is to create an awareness program that will educate and challenge potential leaders to needs and opportunities in Crawford County and teach them the skills necessary to make a difference.
