  • Phyllis Thompson Completes Advance Year of CDI

    CONWAY, Ark. – Phyllis Thompson, Director of Membership with the Van Buren Chamber, has recently completed the Advanced Year class of the 40th annual Community Development Institute (CDI) at the University of Central Arkansas on July 31, 2026.

    The Advanced Year class of the Community Development Institute focuses on the application of community and economic development principles in a real-world setting. Participants that have completed Years 1, 2, and 3 of CDI take the skills they learned and use them to make a positive impact on an Arkansas community.

    Throughout the week of July 27 - July 31, the class worked with and explored the City of Pea Ridge.
     
    The class conducted an online first impressions tour of each city, completed a driving tour, learned about the city and region's unique strengths, and developed a report of potential opportunities that will be shared back with local leaders.
    UCA is the birthplace for the Community Development Institute, which started in 1987 in partnership with Entergy, Southwestern Bell, and ARKLA. Since that time, CDI’s have been established in Texas, Idaho, Alabama, Illinois, Delaware, and Louisiana, and a national governing and certification body, the Community Development Council, has been created.
